Artist Statement
“Hustling: Resilience and Determination”
My artistic focus is on the resilient world of hustling, where individuals transform skills into livelihoods. Specifically, I highlight the struggles and triumphs of barbers and mechanics who persevere despite adversity.
Through mixed media, I bring their stories to life. I incorporate newspaper articles related to their trades, using words as symbols of diverse hustlers' experiences. My artistic approach combines drawing, printmaking, and painting.
To add authenticity, I also use old clothes and materials from these hustlers, weaving their realities into my art.
My art highlights their determination and challenges. In one piece, I used toilet paper to symbolize society's disregard for their efforts—a theme I may explore further.
Through my art, I aim to inspire understanding and respect for these hardworking individuals.
I celebrate their strength and resourcefulness in overcoming difficulties.
